By Lola James
Overview
If your Homelite string trimmer is giving you problems there may be a better option than taking it to a repair shop. If you're trimmer is sputtering, missing at idle or simply not starting, this could mean that it's engine and carburetor are in need of cleaning. It would be easier and cost efficient for you to clean your trimmer's engine and carburetor yourself rather than spend the time and the money on a professional. If you find that there are other problems with your trimmer you can visit Homelite's Service and Support page for further assistance.
Step 1
Buy some Gumout Carb+Choke Cleaner. This can be found at your local hardware store.
Step 2
Start the engine and work the choke by hand as you spray the linkage, all around the air cleaner and down the carburetor throat with the Gumout Carb+Choke Cleaner.
Step 3
Continue to work the choke by hand. When the engine tries to stall continue to work the choke by hand until the engine is running smoothly.
